About Stjohn Axbey Design

An east of London lad born in the early 1970s, it seems that interior design and architecture is very much in my DNA.

​

My father was a carpenter & joiner by trade and carved a successful career in construction management, being responsible for building one of the largest hotels in central London. I followed in Dad’s footsteps,  attaining a BTEC National Diploma and Higher National Certificate in Building Studies and working for one of the UK’s leading construction companies.

​

In 1995 I departed the UK for the tranquillity of the NSW Blue Mountains, where I fell in love with the heritage of Australia and its charming old buildings. My passion for these beautiful old homes eventually led to my purchase of a turn-of-the-century federation home.

​

Equipped with my vast practical skills in construction as well my theoretical knowledge in design and construction, I spent a considerable amount of time restoring and enhancing my grand old home.

 

Word of my passion and talent for interior design quickly travelled and I soon found myself with a client base in the Blue Mountains, working on interior design projects for a number of old houses and restoring their grandeur for 21st century living.

Returning to Sydney in 2014, I have spent the past few years working for one of Sydney’s top 3D visualization companies, earning my TAFE qualification in Interior Design and Decoration and keeping up to date on current trends in interior design and construction.

​

In 2019 I decided the time was right to again follow my passion for interior design and creating beautiful living and working spaces. Stjohn Axbey Design is back to once again help you create and achieve your dream interior for both residential and commercial applications.
